WEDDINGS
Our church is available for weddings, and is also allowable for Anglican clergy to officiate at weddings that are outside Church buildings. The main stipulation is that the wedding ceremony is arranged in a way that maintains the dignity and serious nature of this occasion. Given that proviso, it is then up to the couple with advice from the priest in designing a space and service that suits their ideas.
There are a number of Government requirements that must be fulfilled before a marriage is registered. The first is the “Notice of Intended Marriage” which must be completed prior to the actual wedding ceremony. The couple sign a declaration that there is no legal reason why they cannot get married. Suitable counselling is recommended prior to the marriage.
As Marriage is a Sacrament in the church it is expected that at least one of the couple is Baptised. There is also a requirement that if either of the couple has been divorced then it is necessary to consider the issues that caused the divorce. We are also required to formally obtain the approval of the Bishop of the Diocese to go ahead with the marriage.
The basic form of the service is found in the Anglican Prayer Book. This is usually following very closely with the possibility of selecting some parts that are optional. The process of selection is done with the Priest. Other readings and poems etc. can be included if they are considered appropriate by the officiating priest.
The fee is $500 which covers use of church buildings, officiate, organist.
There is usually a need to meet with the Priest about 3 – 4 times prior to the wedding day.
Phone the Parish Office and leave a message. We will get back to you to check the calendar and if all other requirements are OK the booking will be made.
