Weekly letter from St Luke's - 12 July 2024

ear Parish Friends

We have quite an eclectic choice of readings this weekend. In the Old Testament reading from 2 Samuel, King David cements his place as king by bringing the ark of God to Jerusalem with exuberant leaping and dancing! This celebration is echoed in the Psalm. Then our New Testament reading starts the letter to the Ephesians with a long blessing telling of the goodness of God to us from even before the world was created. Much to celebrate of the abundant grace of God! The gospel passage then seems to take us in a different direction, with the story of the death of John the Baptist for political reasons. We are reminded, as we were last week, that although we are assured of God's love, our mission is in the read world with all the 'cosmic powers of this present darkness' as the author of Ephesians writes later (Eph. 6:12).

Our 7am and 9am services are as usual (with Zoom streaming at 9am). As this is the second Sunday of the month, the 9am service will follow the format we introduced last month, with our children playing a large part in leading the service - reading, praying, welcoming etc. Please encourage your families to join us.

It is also 'Sea Sunday' this weekend, and so we will hear a little about the work of the Mission to Seafarers. The 9am service sheet and the week's Notice Paper are available via the links below.

Bookings are now open for our parish camp at Glengarry 3-4 August. You can book and pay online here, or else paper forms are available in church. If you are thinking of going, please book now!

Yours in Christ

Rev'd Timothy
