Weekly letter from St Luke's - 20th February 2026

Last week Lent began on Ash Wednesday. The introduction to the liturgy began with these words:

Brothers and sisters in Christ, since early days Christians have observed with great devotion the time of our Lord’s passion and resurrection and prepared for this by a season of penitence and fasting.

For many people, the last phrase of this sentence is the one that resonates, and indeed our gospel reading this week speaks of Jesus in the wilderness. But we need to always keep in mind the first part of the sentence, that we are looking forward to the resurrection, and that this is something that we need to always rejoice in. Remember that every Sunday, including the Sundays in Lent, are celebrations of the resurrection - in fact, the 40 days of Lent do not include the Sundays in the count.

Our services on Sunday are as usual at 7am and 9am (with Children's Church and Zoom streaming). During the season of Lent I encourage you to arrive for the service early for, at 5 minutes to the hour I will ring the church bell and invite you to a time of silent prayer and reflection before we sing our opening hymn. The weekly notices and the 9am service sheet are available via the buttons below.

A reminder that the Annual Meeting of the parish will be held this Sunday at 10.30am in St Luke's Church. It will also be possible to join this meeting by Zoom using the same details as for our services (see button below). The Annual Report Book is available here.

With blessings,

Rev'd Timothy
