Weekly letter from St Luke's - 30 July 2021
Dear Parish Friends Once again our services will be what we are calling 'mode B', with reduced singing and congregational speaking, as the mask mandate in SE Queensland continues. The 9am service is, as usual, also streamed over Zoom, and there will be Children's ministry. The week's notice paper and service sheet for the 9am service are available via the links below. Remember too the commissioning service for Bruce and Libby who will be resuming their work with CMS in South Asia. This is at 5pm on Sunday at North Pine Anglican Church. If you would like to car-pool, please let me know. Our gospel for the 10th Sunday after Pentecost ends with the great verse: Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.' (John 6:35) The passage follows the account of the feeding of the five thousand. Here the people were said the be 'satisfied' (verse 12) which suggests that they were not merely filled with the bread but their hunger was fulfilled. In the words we read this week, Jesus takes this idea of fulfillment to encompass a spiritual dimension, however we are called to remember that the physical dimension remains. Think then of what we are saying when we pray in the Lord's Prayer "Give us today our daily bread". Yours in Christ Rev'd Timothy
