Weekly letter from St Luke's - 25th November 2022

Dear Parish Friends

This Sunday is Advent Sunday, and the start of the new church year. We might think of this season as a 'countdown to Christmas', with the imaginary of the candles on the Advent wreath, but it is much more than this. Our readings this weekend are more focused on the second coming of Christ at the End (with a capital E), than on the first coming. Advent means 'coming', or really in in the church's context 'comings'. We are called in this season therefore to look at three dimensions: history, mystery and majesty. First we look back to the events of the incarnation, prefigured by the prophets. Then to the present, what does it mean to be living in these times between the two comings. And finally to the future, when Christ will come again to fulfil the Kingdom promises in all their glory.

Our services are as usual at 7am and 9am, with Children's ministry and Zoom options at 9am. The liturgy for the 9am service and the weekly notice paper are available via the links below.

David and Judy Moy will be taking a final delivery to Inala pantry in early December, so do bring items for this to church this weekend or next. Remember that cash is also useful to Inala to help supplement the items given.

Finally, the St Luke's Theatre Society's play Jake's Women has its final three performances this evening at 7.30pm and tomorrow at 2pm and 7.30pm. Tickets still available.

Yours in Christ
