Fifty days after Easter we come to Pentecost (the name gives it away). This is the Greek name for the Jewish Feast of Weeks, the beginning of the wheat harvest, which is why so many of the Jewish diaspora were in Jerusalem at this time. Last Thursday was Ascension Day which, in the church calendar is as important as Christmas, Easter or Pentecost (indeed in many European and African countries it is a public holiday). Over the next few weeks, we continue to celebrate the resurrection of Christ until we reach Ascension Day.
