Weekly letter from St Luke's - 22 May 2026

Fifty days after Easter we come to Pentecost (the name gives it away). This is the Greek name for the Jewish Feast of Weeks, the beginning of the wheat harvest, which is why so many of the Jewish diaspora were in Jerusalem at this time. In the book of Acts it was at this time that the Holy Spirit, prophesied in the Old Testament and promised by Jesus, came upon the disciples. The Spirit's timing was impeccable - Jerusalem full of pilgrims who listened and responded to Peter's inspired sermon. From that day the church grew, and continued to grow, through the inspiration of the same Spirit.

Our services are at the usual times on Sunday of 7am and 9am. The 9am service will be streamed over Zoom and include Children's Church. As usual the week's notice paper and 9am service sheet are available via the links below. The liturgical colour for Pentecost is RED, to reflect the flames coming upon the disciples in Acts 2, so wear something appropriate.

With blessings

Rev'd Timothy
