Weekly letter from St Luke's - 29 May 2026

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, the day when we celebrate a doctrine, and perhaps we find this a hard things to do (a wonderful sign in the ruins of the Chapter House at Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire states that "Here the monks gathered every Sunday to hear a sermon from the Abbot, except on Trinity Sunday, owing to the difficulty of the subject.”. I have two comments to make. Firstly the Trinity is how we experience God, not how we understand God, and indeed trying to do the latter ends us down many rabbit holes with dead ends (if you'll excuse the mixed metaphor). Then the Trinity is not something that we only consider this one day of the year. It is intrinsic to how we worship God the year round.
Our services are at the usual times on Sunday of 7am and 9am. The 9am service will be a special intergenerational service for the 5th Sunday in the month with our children helping to lead the service and activities for all ages (it will also be streamed over Zoom). As usual the week's notice paper and 9am service sheet are available via the links below.
With blessings,
Rev'd Timothy
