Weekly letter from St Luke's - 12 May 2023

Dear Parish Friends We continue our celebration of the Easter Season in this sixth Sunday of Easter, and begin to anticipate Pentecost, just two weeks away. In the gospel reading from John 14, Jesus, speaking on the eve of his arrest, promises that even though he was leaving the disciples, they would not be bereft. He promises the 'Spirit of Truth', which would abide in his disciples, both in the days of the early church and in the church today. Interestingly at the end of verse 17, where Jesus describes the presence of the Spirit, the phrase 'he will be in you' can also be translated as 'he will be among you'. In both cases 'you' is plural, which encourages to remember that we are called to follow Jesus in community rather than as individuals. On Sunday morning our services are as usual at 7am and 9am, with the 9am service including Children's ministry and also streamed over Zoom (see below for service sheet and the week's notice paper). Please remember the two major events coming up in the next few weeks:

  • Art Show in the Upper Hall (in association with Lilly-Lee Studios). 27-28th May. Invite all your friends to come and support this event. There will be a cafe run by Kofi Klub (donations of cakes/slices welcomed) as well as a sausage sizzle on the Saturday.

  • Parish Camp at Glengarry. 3-4th June. All welcome for all or part of this weekend. For details, and to book, see st-lukes-parish-gathering.eventbrite.com.au

Yours in Christ

Rev'd Timothy
