Weekly letter from St Luke's - 24 November 2023

Dear Parish Friends

This Sunday marks the last year in the church's calendar, with the new year starting next week on Advent Sunday. Our readings therefore bring to a conclusion the Christ story, which started with the promise in Advent, through Jesus' the incarnation, his death, resurrection and ascension, and now his reign in heaven. We note though that the story does not end there. The promise of his return remains, and the kingdom, whilst here with those who believe, is still 'to come'. So we reflect both on our Christian hope and our call to express kingdom values in the time in which we find ourselves.

One of these expressions is care of the environment, and so it is wonderful that, at the 9am service, our parish will receive awards from the 'five leave eco-awards' program to mark what we have been doing over the last year or so in our parish. We welcome Louise Scott from Our Lady, Queen of Apostles Catholic Parish Stafford, who received their Five Leaf Eco-Awards in September 2022, to present the awards.

Our services are at 7am and 9am as usual, with children's church and Zoom streaming at 9am. The week's notice paper and 9am service sheet are available via the links below.

Don't forget the working bee this Saturday morning to help clear out some of the rubbish from the lower hall. This starts at 8.30am.Finally, Beryl Collingwood's funeral will be at 11am on Monday 27th November at St Luke's.

ours in Christ

Rev'd Timothy
