Weekly letter from St Luke's - 27 May 2022

Dear Parish Friends I am sending this email out early this week to remind you that today is Ascension Day and there will be a service at St Luke's (also streamed on Zoom) at 6.30pm today. This will replace the usual service of Evening Prayer on Zoom. Our psalm this evening is Psalm 97, which includes the verses: God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the king of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm. This is an 'enthronement Psalm'. It calls us to celebrate with loud voices. On Ascension Day it reminds us that Christ's reign is of reconciliation and forgiveness rather than oppression and repression. We are also reminded that God is king, not just of heaven, but of earth as well. Our services will be at the usual times on Sunday. See below for links to the week's notice paper and the order of service for the 9am service, which will also be streamed over Zoom. The 9am service will be a special all-age worship service for the 5th Sunday of the month. There will not be communion at this service, and activities for children will be incorporated in the service. We will also, at both services, remember the work of CMS, and in particular our link missionaries Bruce and Libby, serving in South Asia. Yours in Christ Rev'd Timothy
