Dear Parish Friends
Saturday 1st November is All Saints Day (hence today, 31st October is All Hallows Eve, 'All Hallows being an old name for 'All Saints') and 2nd November is All Souls Day. Both these celebrations encourage us to reflect on the whole church on earth and in heaven. All Saints Day originated in the 4th century as there were so many that the church wanted to honour that there were not enough days in the year! Following St Paul, we take this as cause to give thanks for all who have followed Christ, for all such as saints. All Souls originated in the 10th century to pray for with whom one had an special personal connection (originally in a community of monks). We take this as a cause to give thanks for the lives of those known to us whose faith had a formulate effect on us.
As has become our custom, we will celebrate All Saints in our morning services this Sunday, and All Souls at a special service of Evening prayer at 5pm. At the 5pm service there will be an opportunity to light candles in remembrance and a list of names will be read. Please reply to this email with names that you would like added, or write them on the list in church.
At our morning services we will also give thanks for our Mission Week and have an opportunity to offer a symbol of our commitment to Christ though the work of our parish.
As always, the notice paper and the 9am service sheet are available via the links below. Our 9am service includes Children's Church and will be streamed on Zoom.
Yours in Christ
Rev'd Timothy
