Weekly letter from St Luke's - 5 May 2023

Dear Parish Friends This Sunday is a big weekend throughout the Commonwealth of Nations, as King Charles III is crowned in Westminster Abbey. You can watch this on the ABC from 5pm on Saturday (the service is at 8pm Brisbane time). A celebratory service of Evensong will be held in St John's Cathedral at 5pm on Sunday and all are welcome. On Sunday morning our services are as usual at 7am and 9am, with the 9am service including Children's ministry and also streamed over Zoom (see below for service sheet and the week's notice paper). Our gospel passage is from John 14, and includes Jesus saying that he is 'the way, the truth and the life' (v.6), a verse that is almost as well known as John 3:16 as a summary of the gospel. But how do we interpret this? Is it a statement of exclusivity? Or is it more nuanced? How does this relate to Jesus saying in verse 2 that in his Father's house are many dwelling places? Perhaps what is being said should be read in the context of verse 1; 'Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me.' Jesus is the way for faithful disciples to follow. Yours in Christ Rev'd Timothy
