Weekly letter from St Luke's - 9 December 2022

Dear Parish Friends The third Sunday of Advent is upon us, and so we will be decorating the Christmas Tree in church tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 9am. All welcome to come and help. The readings for this week continue the theme of preparation as we recite the Song of Mary (the Magnificat). As a response to being told who she was carrying in her womb, Mary gives praise to God and echoes the call of the prophets who said that, through this child, God would prove his faithfulness to God's people, and bring about a radical change. The gospel passage comes from the start of Jesus' ministry and shows how what Mary prophesied begins to take shape. Our services are as usual at 7am and 9am, with Zoom options at 9am. The liturgy for the 9am service and the weekly notice paper are available via the links below. Even though there will not be Children's church until the start of next term, there will be a children's message at 9am and some activity sheets will be available. At the 9am service we also welcome Robyn Maxwell, the chaplain at Wellers Hill State School. Then on Sunday evening is our Carol Service. Come and join us from 5pm for a community sausage sizzle, followed by the service at 6pm where we will hear again the wondrous Christmas story and sing together, supported by an enlarged music group and our choir, who have been fervently practising. Our gust at the service will be Pastor Peter from Annerley Baptist Church, who will tell us about his church's 'Community Connection and Belonging project' (part of Brisbane's 'Pathways out of homelessness' initiative). There will be an opportunity to donate to this worthy project. Finally, remember that the December issue of Church News has been published and can be read on our website here. A few printed copies will be available this Sunday. Thanks to Honor and all the contributors. Yours in Christ Rev'd Timothy
