Weekly letter from St Luke's - 19 January 2024

Dear Parish Friends

On this third Sunday after Epiphany we again look at Jesus calling his first followers, this time the call of Simon, Andrew, James and John, the four fishermen, from the gospel of Mark. This is paired with the Old Testament story of Jonah. Both stories show that God's idea of mission is not always the same as ours. Who would have chosen the fishermen as disciples and later the apostles who were to build the early church? And Jonah had serious doubts about what he was asked to do, so much so that he ran the other way. We are reminded again of the promise from last week's story of the young Samuel that both our ears will tingle as we follow God - yes with fear, but also with hope.

Sunday morning's services are as usual at 7am (Holy Communion) and 9am (Family Communion with Zoom streaming). The notice paper and 9am service sheet are available via the links below.

We have another working bee on Saturday morning (8am-12) to continue the hall clear out. There is a large skip to fill! All welcome.

Yours in Christ

Rev'd Timothy
