Weekly letter from St Luke's - 8th July 2023
Dear Parish Friends As we read through Matthew's gospel in this season of 'Sundays after Pentecost', we keep coming upon familiar verses that we now read in context. This week has another of these: 'Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). This is often read when I, or one of the Liturgical Assistants take communion to someone ill or housebound, and it functions as a great word of comfort for those struggling. But in Matthew's gospel, these are words of Jesus to his followers as part of his encouragement for mission. He is saying that the life to which he is calling them is not a burden, but one that God God's-self will give us the strength to follow. As usual, our services this weekend are 7am (Holy Communion) and 9am (Family communion service with Zoom link). As it is (still just) school holidays there is no formal children's church, but families are always welcome. The weekly notice paper and 9am service sheet are available via the links below. Yours in Christ Rev'd Timothy
