Weekly letter from St Luke's - 13th September 2024

Dear Parish Friends

This Sunday Fr George will be taking the 7am service, and I hope to be with you for the 9am service. The weekly notices and 9am service sheet are available via the links below. As school holidays have started, there will not be Children's Church, but remember that children are always welcome, and there will still be a children's talk in the 9am service.

We come to the third Sunday in the Season of Creation, which is Sky Sunday. With the psalmist we reflect that the work of God is visible in the sky (what they referred to as 'the heavens'), both in what we see (clouds, sunsets, rainbows) and in what we don't see (the substance of life which is oxygen). One of the themes of the season of creation is to draw to our attention places where we have not treated creation as we ought, and in the realm of the sky, we think of both visible pollution and the invisible increase of carbon dioxide and other 'greenhouse' gases. With the prophet Jeremiah we mourn that 'the heavens above grow black', but are encouraged by St Paul, who looks forward to "the whole creation [being] set free from its bondage to decay" (Romans 8:20).

For this season Queensland Churches Together have put together a devotional, Download it here, or get it on your mobile by searching the Apple or Android app stores
